A Bold Backdrop

How many more times can I talk about “this awkward in-between season” before you all collectively tell me to shut up?

Let’s try one more.

With so many lingering signs of winter, winter, winter, it was really refreshing to stumble upon the freshly painted, fundamentally geographic mural by Maya Hayuk on Bowery a few weeks back.

Amazing, no? Only in New York City…

Of course, Lydia, Jessica and I couldn’t resist an impromptu photo shoot. I think this was the first time ever that no one stood and gawked at us while we posed for pics.

Oh, and I’m totally kidding on the impromptu part — that happened next, when Jess and I wandered into Whole Foods for your usual Saturday night pre-game* essentials: hummus, pretzel thins and wine. Lots o’ wine.

*Yep, I’m 28 and I still pre-game. xoxo

*Wearing: Zara jacket (similar; love these colors) BCBGMAXAZRIA feather skirt, Ann Taylor booties, BaubleBar necklace (similar styles), Chanel sunglasses | *Beauty: NARS matte lip pencil in Never Say Never, NARS blush in Love Joy, Benefit Gimme Brow

  • I absolutely LOVE those booties! Dalmatian is my new favorite print!

  • Fantastic booties! We’re definitely in-between here in LA, too with warm days and chilly mornings and nights. Loved seeing you at LuckyFabb!

  • You can definitely keep talking about the dumb in-between season because I feel ya! I’m still wearing my tights to work.. gahh so ready to wear my cute spring sandals! ANND you look SO fab here! I want to pre-game with y’all!! : )

  • Hello fabulous skirt! And of course that wall is stunning. I keep seeing it over and over again, and loving it over and over again. Can I get a print version of it for my home? I will find a way!

  • That is not only a killer backdrop, but a killer outfit. I can’t believe people stared at you in the grocery store. We should be more shocked when people go outside in their yoga pants! At least you were fully dressed and presentable 🙂

  • Meagan

Love that mural! So neat! And your skirt is so fabulous!

  • That skirt is amazing! I totally get it with the whole being stared at thing, it takes some getting used to!

  • Hallie, I LOVE the way you styled that feather skirt! I’ve been obsessively wanting it, but didn’t know how I’d be able to dress it down and get more use out of it. Pairing it with booties and a moto jacket is genius!

    • I’m so glad, lady! A white blouse typically does the trick, too. : )

  • This outfit is pure fabulousness, and I love that backdrop!

  • Loving this look, Hallie! You look great! This mural is amaaaaaazing – I must find it for an OOTD post when I’m in NY. Hope all is well <3

  • Great look gf!!! I love these booties. Such a great backdrop too!

  • Katherine L

That skirt is fab! I definitely need that for spring!

  • I’m so old we called it “pre-func” as in pre-function. HA!

Loving that feather skirt. It’s full of sass.

  • I hear ya girl! I’m like how many times can I talk about the weather in a blog post? That mural is absolutely GORGEOUS + no shame on pregaming girlfriend 😉

  • What a backdrop for a fashion statement!

  • Great skirt find! I’m sad I didn’t see this little number before it sold out online… Such a good deal too. Fun party skirt = fun party night! Hope you had a great one, pre-game & all!
