Guys, I’m just going to come out and say it….
I really like wearing sweatpants in public.
It’s quite ironic that this outfit is being shared on the first day of Fashion Week; but nonetheless — let me to explain.
Up until this point, I feel like everything we’ve been taught about sweatpants (sartorially speaking) is wrong. WRONG!
Well, kind of. What I mean is: These baggy bottoms have come a long way since gym class, and these days, they’re totally appropriate to sport (ahem) when you’re out and about.
In fact, the fashion industry has been up on the comfort coupe for quite some time, too — sweatpants were spotted on the runway of Alexander Wang and Michael Kors last season, among others. (Perhaps you’ve even dabbled in an array of chic loungewear at Nordstrom or Zappos?)
After yesterday’s announcement, it’s probably no surprise to you that I’m wearing sweatpants in public. But believe it or not, I wasn’t heading to the gym (/SoulCycle studio). Just a casual Wednesday!
Somewhere between maxi season and winter weather, it seems that I became a comfort connoisseur. But, I mean: Sweatpants as a socially acceptable alternative to skinny jeans?
Yes. SO MUCH YES!
When paired with the right pieces, this super-soft, slouchy style can easily be worn well beyond the gym or nail salon.
I’m all about taking pieces that resemble pajamas to stylish new levels (at the office, for Fashion Week, and so on), and the trick to styling these baggy bottoms is to top ’em off with a fitted top and a classic camel trench coat. It’s Fashion Week, after all. ‘Tis the season for street style experimentation!
Oh, boy. Fashion Week.
Ready or not…
